Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava is a modern educational and scientific institution. Since its foundation in the year 1937 more than 110.000 students have graduated.

In average, 16.000 students study at the STU every year. At present, the STU consists of seven faculties. All the STU faculties provide a study in accredited study programs within the complex system of a bachelor, master and PhD study. Faculties realize credit system compatible with the European credit transfer system enabling mutual mobility of students within European Union member countries and a larger European space. In the area of scientific and research activities the STU successfully joins European Union programs. STU in Bratislava also fulfils its mission in the field of further education, by means of the preparation, organization, and assuring of further education, which is prepared at the particular faculties of the university and by the Institute of Lifeliong Education at STU. Slovak University of Technology is research oriented university.
During its existence, the university significantly contributed to development of scientific knowledge, enrichment and utilization of scientific knowledge for the benefit of mankind. The university pursues research in all the areas in which university education is provided, thus in the areas of architecture, civil engineering, geodesy, cartography, chemical technologies, food processing, machinery, electrical engineering, electronics, informatics, information and communication technologies and applied physics, mathematics, economics, social science as well.

Research activities of the university are financially secured mainly by grant projects VEGA, APVV and other state science and research programmes. The university also took opportunity to join European science and technology cooperation programmes, searches for and gains additional financial resources from EU programmes, primarily from the Leonardo da Vinci scheme, Socrates, LLLP, and Sixth and Seventh Framework Programme of EU. Slovak University of Technology recognizes great potential in extension of communication networks supporting transfer of know-how gained at the university to practice.
Institute of Mathematics and Physics at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering participated in several EU programmmes and educational projects related to development of mathematical education, both nationally and internationally.
